Thanksgiving has always been one of my favorite holidays. No gifts to buy and wrap, no pressure to massively decorate, no stress—just a whole lot of turkey and family time.
But this year, amid the COVID-19 pandemic and the recent surge of cases, many of us are preparing for a different kind of Thanksgiving. Some of us will be missing family or even celebrating alone. Others of us will be changing or scaling back our gatherings. We might find that we have to modify or forgo beloved traditions.
I don’t know about you, but some days, I find it easy to dwell on everything I’m missing in this season and even to feel a little sorry for myself. That’s when I force myself to count my blessings, and to remember there’s still—there’s always—so much for which to be grateful, even during a global health crisis unlike anything most of us have experienced before.
However you’re planning to observe this year’s Thanksgiving holiday, we invite you to join us in our week-long Gratitude Challenge and focus on the people and things in your life for which you are grateful.
Every day from Nov. 23-29, at 6 a.m., we will post a question or prompt on our Facebook and Instagram channels, inviting you to tell us about a person, an experience, or something else you’re particularly thankful for. You’ll respond to the question by leaving a comment under the post, and if you’re commenting on Facebook, we’d love for you to share a photo too.
Not only will each of us be reminded how much we have to be grateful for, but we’ll also be inspired by each other’s reflections as we consider what’s most important to us.
If that’s not enough to elicit your participation, each comment (up to one per challenge) will gain you an entry into a giveaway with some great prizes! On Nov. 30, we’ll randomly select and announce the winners!
